Overview
Data is the foundation of much of what we do today
Online Backup - relax

There are many sources of statistics available which tell us that typically at least 90% of businesses will go out of business within 2-5 years of a significant data loss.

Data is one of your most valuable assets and yet is seldom treated with the care and respect it deserves. Many businesses and home users do not have a good, regular and reliable backup regime in place.

Data backup and especially recovery has become an integral part of running a business and is becoming more so for home users; all of whom have data to protect which if lost would range from inconvenient to extremely distressing with possible serious consequences.

Online backup is the easiest and most efficient way of protecting data today. Previously only available to large companies with expensive IT infrastructures, the technology is now available to anybody with a high speed link to the Internet, such as is provided by ADSL and cable.

It is said that when it comes to computer systems, we are only as good as our last backup. Backups4All technology and professional services offer peace of mind and the assurance that each and every day, or as defined by you, your data sets are being reliably sent to our secure servers where they can reside indefinitely until you need to restore from them. Try Backups4All and join the other thousands users worldwide using the same technology and who are confident that their last backup was as good as it could be.

Why use online backup

Many computer users do not backup their data correctly or regularly and are very exposed to the very real threat that one day their equipment will fail - most disk drives will fail at some point as they are electromechanical devices which simply wear out.

Online backup eliminates the many headaches of conventional backup mechanisms. It is now possible to backup your data to a secure off site location with a few clicks of the mouse. The backups will occur automatically as scheduled by you and it really is 'set and forget' until that all important moment when you need to restore your data.

Online backup is now very efficient, streamlined and cost effective; is in use by companies of all sizes, as well as by private individuals and represents very good value for money when the value of what it is protecting is fully analysed.

Myth - Online backup is too expensive

Initially it may seem that an online solution is more expensive than traditional backup methods.

Often not all costs are factored in though. Once the costs of hardware, software, staff, media such as tapes or disks, offsite storage of media and of course human error and corrupt media are taken into account the online proposition is very competitive and usually cheaper.

Myth - Storing data on the Internet is not safe

All data transmitted to the offsite servers is compressed (made smaller to cut down transmission time and take up less server space) and encrypted (scrambled) using a pass phrase known only to you. The level of security employed is the same as that used by banks and other financial institutions.

Myth - The Internet is too slow for data backups

If you have a lot of data to backup - many tens or hundreds of Gigabytes then it can indeed take a while to copy it over the Internet to the secure servers.

For our business account customers this problem can be overcome by making a compressed and encrypted copy of the data locally and then burning it onto CD or DVD or copying it to a portable storage device; we can then directly import this data to the secure servers. Even if this media were stolen, your data would not be accessible to anybody who did not know your pass phrase.

Online backup also uses clever technology typically referred to as File Delta technology. The initial backup copies all selected files to the secure servers - either by the process described above or via the Internet. On each subsequent backup only new files and changes to existing files are copied. Typically only a very small percentage of files change on a daily basis so this mechanism provides very efficient and regular data updates on the secure servers.

Myth -You cannot simulate tapes

This is actually a true statement when applied to many other online backup solutions. Backups4All however allows very flexible data retention rules to be configured.

Retention rules define how long you want deleted and out of date files to be kept on the secure servers. Your most current data is always available. These rules can be defined in terms of number of days to retain or number of backup jobs or using advanced options a complete tape cycle can be simulated.

Backups4All offers all of the flexibility of tape backup without the associated costs and risks, all of your data is stored securely offsite, and is available 24/7.
